Winter fishing is about to get more exciting in Missouri as two spots will allow anglers to keep the rainbow trout they reel in starting Feb. 1.
Krug Park Lagoon and Everyday Pond in St. Joseph were stocked with trout last fall by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The pan-sized trout were raised at MDC’s Bennett Spring and Chesapeake fish hatcheries.
Missouri trout fishing enthusiasts have enjoyed the benefit of catch-and-release, but now they can take some of their haul home for dinner, up to four trout daily with the proper permit.
State conservation officials say anglers can use scented lures and natural baits as well as unscented artificial lures.
The trout were stocked in partnership with the St. Joseph Parks, Recreation, and Civic Facilities Department and Missouri Western State University.
