Quick CT scans vital for stroke patients

The Arkansas Department of Health recently honored hospitals, ambulance services and several other providers for excellence in stroke patient care.
The awards are based on criteria such as stroke care being free of defects, how quickly patients received a CT scan and proper use of the Arkansas stroke band system, which helps identify suspected stroke patients through wristbands.
The goal is to cut down on the amount of time in which these patients receive CT scans, and the program also collects patient data to create better outcomes.
“Through our work with the communities, EMS, and hospitals we hope to improve the quality of stroke care among Arkansans with this devastating condition,” said State Chronic Disease Director Dr. Bala Simon.
