Arkansas Man Arrested on Two Counts of Capital Murder

Bodies of two men found outside former school building in December 2023

ARKANSAS — An Arkansas man was arrested this week on two counts of capital murder in connection to the deaths of two men whose bodies were found outside a former school building about nine months ago.

State police in Arkansas stopped a Dodge Charger on Tuesday for a traffic violation in Lake Village and identified a passenger as 25-year-old Taiwan Collins Jr. of McGehee.

Collins was wanted by the Monticello Police Department, which is about 30 miles from where he resides in McGehee and about 40 miles from where the traffic stop occurred in Lake Village.

The double murder happened in December of 2023 in Wilmar, which is 90 miles south of Little Rock.

Collins was arrested Tuesday of this week after the traffic stop and booked into the Drew County Detention Center on two counts of capital murder for the deaths of a Dumas man and a man from McGehee.

The bodies of Suquorey Pitts Jr., 25, of Dumas, and Independence Young, 21, were found near the old Wilmar School on North Fifth Street after the Drew County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, 2023, according to a news release issued this week by Arkansas State Police.

Pitts was found dead in the front passenger seat of a vehicle parked in the old school’s driveway, and Young’s body was found lying on North Fifth Street, the release adds.
