Arkansas Tree-Trimmer Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud for Over $3 Million in Intentional Non-Reporting of Income, DOJ Says

ARKANSAS — An Arkansas man pleaded guilty in federal court to tax fraud Thursday for “deliberately” not reporting over $3 million in earnings from his tree business, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

This caused a tax loss to the government of more than $920,000, officials say.

Carlos Gonzalez, 59, filed a false income tax return in 2019 for his tree-trimming and removal business, Charley’s Tree Service.

Gonzalez, of Rogers, Arkansas, intentionally did not report more than $3 million in receipts from 2014 to 2020, causing a tax of more than $920,000, according to a DOJ news release issued today.

Gonzalez is now awaiting his sentencing date and could face three years in prison.

This was an IRS Criminal Investigation case.
