Will that money you may save on winter heating costs “burn a hole in your wallet?”

Federal energy officials expect residential natural gas prices to fall about 21 percent from the prior winter.

It’s the most common source of U.S. home heating.

Joe DeCarolis leads the nation’s energy information administration and says the lower natural gas prices should still hold even if the winter is colder than expected.

Propane and electric heating costs are expected to be flat, but heating oil prices could rise depending on weather conditions.

Most heating fuel inventories are above the five-year average, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported last month.
