Missouri Man Faces 20 Years in Prison for ‘Serious Financial Misconduct’ as Boilermaker Union’s Chief Executive

Unnecessary International Trips and Salaries in Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars for Associates Who Did Little to No Work, Feds Say

MISSOURI — A 44-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man pleaded guilty Thursday to racketeering conspiracy for misappropriating money in numerous ways as the chief executive of the Boilermakers Union, federal officials announced.

Tyler Brown’s guilty plea follows an investigation by the FBI and U.S. Department of Labor into his “serious financial misconduct.”

Brown faces up to two decades in prison when he is sentenced in about three months on Aug. 22 in federal district court.

Brown employed “several family members of international officers who received several hundred thousand dollars” for little or nonproductive work, a U.S. Department of Justice news release issued Thursday says.

Brown also bought items and restaurant meals for the international president and his wife that did not help the Boilermakers Union and paid for “dozens” of unnecessary international trips for officers and employees.

These actions occurred between 2013 and 2022, during which time Brown carried out the international president’s directives, the release adds.
