Tennessee Man Booked on Criminal Homicide Charge After Altercation Leads to Fatal Shooting of Apparent ‘Flagged Down’ Motorist, TBI Says

TENNESSEE — State of Tennessee law enforcement agents are investigating the Wednesday shooting death of a motorist who appears to have been flagged down during an altercation between three other people at a residence about 40 miles southwest of Nashville, officials announced today.

A juvenile was also wounded in the incident and transported to the hospital and has since been released.

It occurred in Hickman County, Tennessee, and a Bon Aqua man was arrested. The incident happened on Wayne Road in Bon Aqua, and “initial reports” indicate the altercation was between the juvenile, homeowner and another man.

The homeowner, Danny Pewitt, was arrested after allegedly firing a “weapon,” killing a motorist named Clair Parish, who apparently stopped at the property after being “flagged down” during the altercation between the other three people, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation news release states.

The incident remains under investigation, but it appears Pewitt fired the weapon sometime during the altercation, fatally striking Parish, 64, and injuring the juvenile, according to the news release.

Pewitt, who is 70, was booked into the Hickman County Jail and charged with criminal homicide as the investigation continues.
