Two Found Dead in Louisiana Boating Crash Near Texas

Pontoon Boat Reportedly Capsized on Guided Fishing Trip

LOUISIANA — Two people on a five-person guided fishing trip were found dead after a wave reportedly capsized their pontoon boat this week near the Louisiana-Texas state line, according to wildlife and fisheries agents.

The bodies of Macy Richard, 27, and Jerilyn Hebert, 57, both of Opelousas, were recovered from Toledo Bend Lake by rescue teams south of Shreveport on Tuesday.

The wind “quickly” intensified, and a wave hit the pontoon boat, flipping it, a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries news release citing crash survivors states.

The fishing guide, who made for a total of six people on the pontoon boat, called 911 after the boat capsized, and emergency responders recovered the bodies of Richard and Hebert on Tuesday.

The Sabine Parish Coroner’s Office will make formal determinations on the causes of death, and the U.S. Coast Guard is leading the investigation into the fatal boating crash, the release adds.
