Two Senior Citizens Killed in Sunday Night Airplane Crash in Arkansas 110 Miles from Planned Landing Spot

ARKANSAS — Two people in their 70s were killed in a private plane crash Sunday night in Lee County Arkansas, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

It was traveling from Florida to Batesville, Arkansas, and crashed 12 miles southeast of the city limits of Marianna, which is about 60 miles southwest of Memphis and next to the St. Francis National Forest, the agency said in a news release. Marianna is the county seat of Lee County, Arkansas.

The single-engine plane crashed in a field around 9 p.m. about 110 miles from where it was supposed to land in Batesville.

Family members of the plane crash victims contacted the West Helena Arkansas Police Department for help when they had not heard from them. About an hour later, the Lee County, Arkansas Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible plane crash and found the airplane wreckage about 30 minutes later.

The two deceased people were found inside the plane and had been the only people on board, the release adds.

They were Joseph Bryant, 72, and Sharon Bryant, 73.

Arkansas State Police turned the investigation over to the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.
