The entire Minnesota-North Dakota U.S. Postal Service District will be investigated after recent audits of two Minnesota post offices raised several red flags, the U.S. Office of Inspector General announced Thursday.

U.S. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., slammed USPS leaders after audits of the Eagan and Apple Valley Post Offices were published Thursday by the Office of Inspector General.

Craig on Thursday called for a statewide postal service investigation, and the Inspector General responded by announcing an audit of the entire Minnesota-North Dakota District.

The investigations into the Eagan and Apple Valley Post Offices were announced in December by the Inspector General and cited 140,000 pieces of delayed mail, a lack of resources and mail security problems at those post offices.

“For over a year, I’ve been sounding the alarm on unacceptable service from USPS,” Craig said. “And for over a year, USPS leadership has given my office the runaround, saying there’s nothing wrong, in spite of the thousands of messages I’ve received from Minnesotans who aren’t getting their mail.”

Craig added, “Today, Minnesotans get the truth. I am more determined than ever to get to the bottom of this and will continue to exercise Congressional oversight until the mail is delivered on time and letter carriers’ working conditions improve.”
